A [former] Stormtrooper is going to help save the world in Pacific Rim 2. According to Deadline, John Boyega (The Force Awakens) has signed on to play the son Idris Alba’s Stacker Pentecost. The film rambled on shaky legs when trying to get moving into production. The sequel to the popular kaiju/mech battle movie has had it’s pitfalls, losing writers, directors, and film studios having fans quietly whimpering in the corner with fears that this story may not continue. With the news of “Finn” signing onto the cast, there is renewed hope the film will actually get made.

As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.
Pacific Rim, release in 2013 cost $190 to make and only earned $101 million domestically, but made up for it with a respectable global $411,002,906 run.
