Yesterday (Thursday for XBox One users) marked the second BETA access to Ubisoft, Red Storm, and Massive Entertainment’s Tom Clancy’s The Division. This weekend is an open BETA, allowing everyone a preview of the not-so-distant-future third-person shooter set in New York City. Here is the synopsys:

Tom Clancy’s The Division is a ground-breaking RPG experience that brings the genre into a modern military setting for the first time. In the wake of a devastating pandemic that sweeps through New York City, basic services fail one by one, and without access to food or water, the city quickly descends into chaos. As an agent of The Division, you’ll specialize, modify, and level up your gear, weapons, and skills to take back New York on your own terms.

This is the third time I got to be hands on with the game, and it is a wonderful game. They have already announced their plans for Season Pass holders for the next year, which includes 3 expansions. And if their ambitions hold true, replay-ability will be high.

In addition, there is a preface film called The Division: Agent Origins on Amazon Prime, following the early onset of chaos brought to the city after the initial stages of the outbreak. You follow a squad as they’re activated, one by one, to restore order in a city that will only know anarchy.

Below is my 2.5 hour jaunt through the streets of New York and a visit to the Dark Zone (DZ) which is The Division’s Player Vs. Player (PvP) area of the game. The DZ offers stronger equipment, but at a higher risk. If you’ve played and stepped foot into the zone, you know the paranoia that accompanies you.
